Communities in Pampanga and Dagupan City recovering from prolonged flooding received much-needed assistance as SM Foundation mobilized its Operation Tulong Express (OPTE), reaching about 5,600 affected families.
The relief initiative distributed Kalinga Packs to residents whose homes and communities were impacted by weeks of flooding caused by enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat rains. Both areas had been placed under a state of calamity following severe weather conditions.
In Pampanga, relief efforts were carried out this September through SM City Pampanga and SM City San Fernando Downtown. Around 4,700 Kalinga Packs were provided to families in the City of San Fernando and the Municipality of Mexico, two areas that experienced significant flooding.
The distribution was conducted in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), helping bring immediate assistance to residents as they continued cleaning, rebuilding, and recovering from the effects of the floods.
In Dagupan City, SM Center Dagupan initially activated Operation Tulong Express in August, delivering Kalinga Packs to 600 families in Barangay Mamalingling.
Relief operations continued the following month in Barangay Herrero-Perez, where another 300 families received Kalinga Packs as communities continued dealing with the aftermath of flooding that had earlier prompted a state of calamity declaration.
Operation Tulong Express serves as the SM Group’s frontline disaster response program. Through the combined efforts of SM Foundation, SM Supermalls, and SM Markets, the initiative provides immediate assistance and essential supplies to families affected by natural disasters and emergencies in communities across the Philippines.
