Every first Friday and Saturday of the month, SM Supermalls becomes a center for sustainability through its nationwide Trash to Cash (TTC) recycling market. This long-running initiative, which began in 2007, allows individuals to exchange recyclable waste for cash, promoting environmental responsibility while also providing financial benefits to communities. As part of SM’s Waste-Free Future campaign, TTC encourages waste segregation, recycling, and sustainable habits.
Currently implemented across 87 SM malls nationwide, TTC offers a convenient platform for shoppers, tenants, and local residents to participate in sustainable waste management. By ensuring that recyclables are properly sorted and repurposed, the program actively supports the circular economy. It also reflects SM Supermalls’ commitment to reducing waste and promoting responsible environmental stewardship.

A Small Action, A Big Impact
The impact of TTC has been remarkable. In 2024 alone, the program successfully collected over 12 million kilograms of recyclables, translating into more than ₱28 million in earnings for participants. This effort is equivalent to saving 204,000 trees if all collected recyclables were paper or reducing carbon emissions by 18,000 tons if they were plastic. Beyond its environmental benefits, TTC empowers individuals and businesses by demonstrating that sustainability can be both rewarding and financially beneficial.
“TTC is more than just a recycling program—it’s a movement that turns environmental responsibility into real opportunities,” said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan. “By participating, people not only contribute to waste reduction but also gain financial incentives, proving that sustainability can be both impactful and rewarding.”

Be Part of the Change
With climate concerns on the rise, initiatives like TTC show how small, collective efforts can create a significant environmental impact. By participating, individuals contribute to waste reduction, help sustain the circular economy, and take an active role in building a greener future. Every bottle, paper, or can recycled through TTC helps protect the planet.

How to Join the TTC Movement
Participating in TTC is simple. Customers can bring their sorted recyclables—such as paper, plastic bottles, and other reusable materials—to designated drop-off points at participating SM malls. With locations spread across the country, SM Supermalls ensures that the program is accessible to as many people as possible.
