Spreading Awareness and Inclusion Through Happy Talk 2025

A united front for inclusion! SM Cares and DSAPI leaders, alongside key local government officials and disability advocates, celebrate the success of Happy Talk 2025, reaffirming their commitment to building a more inclusive society.

SM Southmall became a vibrant center of inclusivity as SM Cares and the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) hosted the second edition of Happy Talk: Usapang Down Syndrome 2025. The event brought together over 600 participants, including government officials, educators, therapists, and advocates, all united in the goal of fostering awareness and creating safer, more inclusive spaces for individuals with Down syndrome.

Luis M. Harder, President of DSAPI, emphasized the significance of the event, saying, “Through Happy Talk, we are reminded that inclusion is not just about understanding—it’s about action. Every shared story and effort brings us closer to a world where individuals with Down syndrome are embraced and celebrated.”

By sharing her personal story, Ms. Alexandra Arroyo, DSAPI Executive Committee Member, emphasizes the importance of acceptance and empowerment of persons with down syndrome.

A Platform for Collaboration and Progress

Happy Talk 2025 provided an avenue for expert speakers, interactive discussions, and real-life case studies that equipped attendees with concrete strategies for promoting inclusion. Representatives from the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), and other community organizations shared insights and best practices, strengthening the collective mission of disability advocacy.

SM Cares reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity by ensuring that its malls serve as safe, welcoming community hubs. “Through initiatives like Happy Talk, we create ripple effects of understanding and support for individuals with Down syndrome. Educated communities become empowered to act, fostering safer and more inclusive spaces,” said Engr. Bien C. Mateo, SM Cares Program Director for Disability Affairs.

Parents and caregivers shared their personal experiences, inspiring others to advocate for a more inclusive society.

One of the highlights of the event was a panel discussion featuring individuals with Down syndrome who shared their aspirations and achievements, proving that given the right support, they can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

A Movement Beyond the Day

Happy Talk 2025 is just one of many initiatives under SM Cares and DSAPI’s long-term commitment to disability inclusion. The advocacy continues with Happy Walk on March 30, an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating individuals with Down syndrome.

This forum was not just about discussions; it was about coming together to create solutions and pave the way for a more inclusive future,” shared a PDAO representative. The event left attendees with a renewed sense of purpose, inspiring them to take action in their own communities.

Attendees engage in an interactive activity that highlights practical steps to foster inclusivity in schools, workplaces, and communities.

Continuing the Commitment to Inclusivity

SM Cares remains at the forefront of inclusive practices, ensuring that individuals of all abilities are valued and supported. Through initiatives like Happy Talk and Happy Walk, they continue to champion awareness and accessibility, proving that a more inclusive society is within reach.
