Sony Captures Every Angle of Super Bowl LIX to Elevate the Fan Experience

In the heart of New Orleans, as the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, Sony’s cutting-edge technology played a pivotal role in capturing every moment of the event. As an official technology partner of the NFL, Sony deployed over 240 cameras throughout the Caesars Superdome, ensuring that both on-site spectators and millions of viewers worldwide experienced the game from every conceivable angle.

FOX Sports, the official broadcaster, collaborated with production company Game Creek Video to utilize more than 100 Sony professional broadcast cameras for pre-game, in-game, and post-game coverage. These cameras were strategically positioned in end zones, along sidelines, and even on the “SkyCam” hovering above the field, capturing dynamic shots that brought the game’s intensity to life. Additionally, 14 Sony cameras were dedicated exclusively to streaming content, catering to the growing audience of online viewers.

Beyond the game itself, Sony’s influence extended to the Super Bowl Halftime Show. For the fifth consecutive year, the production team known as the Funicular Goats chose Sony’s VENICE 2 digital cinema cameras as their primary equipment. This selection was driven by the cameras’ ability to deliver cinematic quality while seamlessly integrating into a live broadcast environment—a crucial factor given the tight setup window of less than five minutes for the Halftime Show.

Photography also saw significant contributions from Sony. Since 2020, Sony has been the exclusive imaging products and support provider for The Associated Press (AP), the definitive source for NFL imagery. At Super Bowl LIX, AP deployed 14 photographers and nine editors equipped with Sony gear to capture and disseminate iconic images swiftly. The NFL’s in-house photography team, “NFL Focus,” also utilized a range of Sony Alpha™ cameras and lenses to document the event. To support these professionals, Sony’s Pro Support team was on-site, offering services and equipment loans, including the latest flagship Alpha 1 II camera.

Sony’s technological contributions were not limited to capturing visuals. FOX Sports integrated Sony’s HawkREPLAY systems, a remote production and instant replay broadcast solution, to enhance the viewing experience. Additionally, Hawk-Eye technology supported in-game officiating and replay services, ensuring accuracy in crucial game moments.

Gary Brantley, Chief Information Officer of the NFL, emphasized the importance of such collaborations: “The Super Bowl is the most watched event of the year, and delivering an authentic and immersive experience for coaches, players, and fans requires a wide array of advanced technologies. Sony has been instrumental in enhancing the game-day experience with its innovative solutions, and we are proud to have Sony play a key role in making Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans unforgettable.”

Through its comprehensive suite of imaging and production technologies, Sony ensured that Super Bowl LIX was not just a game, but a thoroughly immersive experience for all.
