SMDC Brings Back-to-School Cheer to Pampanga Kids

Suzy, SMDC’s official mascot, brings fun and learning to Kinder and Grade 1 learners of Cutcut Elementary School during the “Balik-Eskwela with the Good Guys” outreach.

In the heart of Angeles, Pampanga, young students took home more than just new school supplies—they carried with them hope, encouragement, and the promise of a brighter future, thanks to SM Development Corporation (SMDC).

Through its flagship community outreach campaign “Balik-Eskwela with the Good Guys,” SMDC recently visited Cutcut Elementary School to distribute school bags and essential learning tools to Kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils. This initiative is part of the company’s larger “Live Good, Do Good” sustainability program, specifically under the Empowering Communities pillar, which promotes education and volunteerism in underprivileged communities.

Leading the activity was SMDC Executive Vice President and Head of Core Operations, Grace Evangeline M. Sta. Ana, alongside dedicated employee volunteers from the SMDC Nature segment. Fondly known as The Good Guys, these volunteers offered their time and hearts to ensure the young learners felt supported as they return to school. Their presence turned the outreach into more than just a distribution—it became a moment of connection and care.

The “Good Guys Volunteer Movement” has become a core part of SMDC’s identity, empowering both employees and residents to engage in acts of kindness through regular outreach efforts, clean-up drives, and donation campaigns. For SMDC, community building is not only about constructing residences but also about creating environments where people thrive and support each other.

At SMDC, a good home is one that nurtures lives,” said Sta. Ana. “This program is a reminder to young students that they are never alone in their journey—we are here, cheering them on every step of the way.”

The activity was held in collaboration with Barangay Cutcut’s local government, represented by Barangay Administrator Thelma Indiongco. Adding a dose of fun and laughter, SMDC’s beloved mascot Suzy joined the celebration, entertaining kids with games and cheerful moments.

Through programs like “Balik-Eskwela with the Good Guys,” SMDC continues to prove that a strong community starts with simple gestures of care—reminding the next generation that education, opportunity, and hope should always be within reach.
