SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime) strengthened its commitment to accessibility and inclusive development after receiving 14 recognitions at the 31st Apolinario Mabini Awards, highlighting the company’s continued efforts to create environments that welcome and empower persons with disabilities.
Presented by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Inc. (PFRD), the biennial Apolinario Mabini Awards recognize organizations and property developers that uphold the rights, welfare, and accessibility needs of persons with disabilities. This year’s achievement marks an improvement from the 10 awards SM Prime earned in the previous awards cycle.
Jeffrey C. Lim, President of SM Prime, said the recognition reinforces the company’s commitment to designing and managing developments that allow everyone to move, work, and enjoy public spaces with greater independence. He emphasized that accessibility remains an essential part of the company’s long-term development strategy as it continues to expand its portfolio across the country.
SM Supermalls accounted for 12 of the awards, reflecting the company’s ongoing investments in improving existing facilities and incorporating accessible features into mall expansions. SM City Bicutan and SM City Fairview received Special Awards on Expansion for their substantial compliance with the provisions of Batas Pambansa Blg. 344, the country’s Accessibility Law.
Meanwhile, SM City Dasmariñas, SM City San Pablo, SM City Telabastagan, SM City Urdaneta Central, and SM City Tarlac were honored with Special Awards for successfully addressing previous accessibility deficiencies. Bronze Awards were presented to SM City East Ortigas, SM City Sto. Tomas, SM City Bacolod North Block Extension, and SM Center Angono, while SM City Roxas earned a Silver Award for its accessibility initiatives.
SM Offices also gained recognition, with Three E-Com Center and Five E-Com Center each receiving Bronze Awards. Located within the six-building E-Com Campus at the Mall of Asia Complex, these office developments integrate accessible design with modern Grade A workspaces, sustainable building features, and convenient connectivity to support employees, visitors, and clients of all abilities.
The awards underscore the importance of Batas Pambansa Blg. 344, enacted in 1983 to promote barrier-free access through features such as ramps, handrails, and designated parking spaces. Through these recognitions, SM Prime continues to demonstrate that accessible and inclusive design remains a key pillar of its developments nationwide.
