The Tribal Communities Association of the Philippines (TRICAP), Inc. is leading a month-long nationwide observance this August in celebration of the 2026 International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and National Indigenous Peoples Day, reaffirming its commitment to preserving Indigenous culture while promoting education, volunteerism, and community development.
Founded in 1986 as the country’s pioneering national Indigenous Peoples organization, TRICAP has organized a series of activities that recognize the heritage, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous communities across the Philippines. The initiative also seeks to strengthen collaboration among government agencies, schools, private organizations, volunteers, and civil society groups in advancing programs that support Indigenous peoples.
Throughout August, TRICAP will conduct educational forums, school supply packing and distribution for Indigenous learners, volunteer engagement activities, community outreach programs, humanitarian missions, commemorative events, and participation in national volunteerism campaigns. These initiatives aim to provide meaningful support while encouraging greater public awareness of Indigenous cultures and their important role in Philippine society.
The organization is working alongside a wide range of partners, including IBM Impact, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), Ayala Foundation, Hotel Sogo, Apo View Hotel, Golden Hearts Missionary, and Goodera. Their collaboration reflects a shared goal of expanding opportunities for Indigenous communities through education, humanitarian assistance, and inclusive partnerships.
One of the key activities during the month is Project KAPWA, a humanitarian relief mission scheduled on August 19, 2026, for Indigenous families affected by the recent earthquake in Malapatan, Sarangani. The initiative will be supported by Hotel Sogo, Apo View Hotel, Goodera, the NCIP, IPS HEAD Datu Jaime Lantingan, and Fulung Titus Mandalo, providing much-needed assistance to affected communities.
TRICAP is also encouraging Indigenous peoples living in Metro Manila and nearby provinces to take part in the month-long celebration, highlighting Indigenous identity, resilience, and unity through various cultural and community activities.
According to TRICAP National President Bo-i Limpayen Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las, the observance goes beyond celebrating Indigenous heritage. It also serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold the rights, dignity, and aspirations of Indigenous peoples while strengthening partnerships that promote lasting and inclusive development.
As the nation commemorates both the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and National Indigenous Peoples Day, TRICAP invites the public to participate in its activities and support initiatives that help preserve Indigenous culture, expand educational opportunities, strengthen humanitarian efforts, and build a more inclusive future for Indigenous communities across the Philippines.
