The SM Foundation celebrated the achievements of 218 college scholars from Batch 2024 in a recognition ceremony held at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Among the graduates, 63 earned honors, including three summa cum laude, 29 magna cum laude, 27 cum laude, and four with academic distinction.

Starting their college journey in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, these scholars demonstrated remarkable resilience by completing their degrees despite the challenges of remote learning. Debbie Sy, SM Foundation Executive Director, commended their perseverance, stating, “Your achievements are symbols of hope and strength for your families and communities. Education remains the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and we encourage you to use this milestone to uplift others.”

The ceremony also highlighted the contributions of the foundation’s social good partners, whose support played a vital role in the scholars’ success. Established by SM Group founder Henry Sy, Sr. in 1993, the SM College Scholarship Program has supported over 4,000 scholars nationwide.
PThe program provides holistic support, including full tuition coverage, allowances, internships, and employment opportunities within the SM Group, ensuring scholars are equipped for life beyond graduation.

This year’s graduates embody the program’s mission to empower underprivileged youth through education, creating a ripple effect of positive change within their communities. For more information on SM Foundation’s social good initiatives, visit www.sm-foundation.org.
