This December 3, 2024, as the world observes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, SM Cares proudly marks another milestone in its unwavering advocacy for inclusion and empowerment. The year 2024 has been a testament to the organization’s dedication to creating a society where Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) can thrive with dignity, respect, and equal opportunities.
Through flagship programs like Angels Walk for Autism, Happy Walk for Down Syndrome, and the Emergency Preparedness Forum, SM Cares has amplified the voices of PWDs, fostering greater awareness and acceptance.
This year alone, tens of thousands of participants joined these initiatives, making powerful strides in breaking barriers and promoting understanding. Beyond these annual events, SM Cares ventured into new areas, such as enhancing digital accessibility through Eye-Able tools on SM Supermalls’ website, ensuring inclusivity in the digital space.
The organization also prioritized workforce inclusivity with sensitivity training for employees, equipping them to better assist PWDs and creating supportive work environments. Notably, SM Cares partnered with community groups to raise awareness on cerebral palsy, ADHD, and Tourette Syndrome, and extended its advocacy into sports and the arts.
Highlights include sponsoring Phenelopy Marzo, an aspiring figure skater with a disability, and hosting Boccia Sports Tournaments and concerts showcasing the talents of visually impaired performers.
Looking ahead, SM Cares remains steadfast in its mission to build an inclusive future. By fostering understanding, supporting talent, and empowering PWDs, the organization continues to lead the way in creating a world where diversity is celebrated and everyone can reach their full potential.
