ROOTS: A Decade of Song, Story, and Solidarity

On November 29, 2025, Search Coffee on Maginhawa transforms into a listening room where memories hum between sips and strings, as UP LIRIKA marks ten years with “ROOTS”—an intimate music gathering mounted with hosting partner Maroon FM. What began in 2015 as a university-wide special interest group has grown into a home for young storytellers who believe music should echo what people feel and what communities face. “ROOTS” is both a birthday and a homecoming: members and alumni share original pieces that trace where they started and how far they’ve come.

The night leans into the essence of UP LIRIKA—likha, ramdam, at isip—creation led by empathy and reflection. Expect sets that sound like lived experience: lyrics pulled from dorm hallways and jeepney rides, chords warmed by protest lines and quiet, late-night prayers.

Between songs, artists reflect on the moments that formed them: the first open mic that steadied a hand, the mentor who tightened a verse, the blockmate who added a harmony that finally made the chorus land. In a world that keeps changing tempo, “ROOTS” chooses to listen closely, to hold space, and to honor the communities that made the music possible.

The theme is a promise as much as a look back. “ROOTS” means tending the ground—revisiting core values, keeping creative practices honest, and strengthening foundations for the next wave of writers and performers. It’s an invitation to remember what called them to music in the first place: to say something true, to stand with others, and to leave a stage a little kinder than they found it. With Maroon FM guiding the flow, the evening keeps things warm and present—no spectacle, just songs that breathe.

If you’ve ever found courage in a line, or home in a melody, this is your night. Join UP LIRIKA as it celebrates ten years of craft and community at Search Coffee, Maginhawa, on November 29.
