Quality education begins with classrooms where students feel safe, inspired, and ready to learn. Recognizing the importance of nurturing young minds through better learning environments, SM Foundation (SMFI) has strengthened its commitment to education by completing the rehabilitation of school facilities in two public schools in Cebu.
The Foundation recently turned over upgraded learning spaces at Jugan Elementary School in Consolacion and Marcelo B. Fernan-Polambato Elementary School in Bogo City. The initiative forms part of SM Foundation’s continuing School Building Program, which aims to improve educational facilities and create environments that encourage both academic growth and personal development.

For years, both schools have served their communities despite limited infrastructure. The newly improved facilities now provide students and teachers with safer, more functional, and more comfortable spaces that support everyday learning.
At Jugan Elementary School, SM Foundation rehabilitated a two-story building with four classrooms and established a DigiHub ICT room. The upgraded facility now accommodates 148 pupils from Kindergarten, Grade 3, and Grade 4 under the guidance of five teachers. The classrooms were designed to provide age-appropriate learning spaces that promote both safety and effective instruction.

Teacher Rizalyn Rico shared that the rehabilitated classrooms were assigned to younger learners because of their secure design, appropriate room size, and child-friendly layout, ensuring a learning environment that matches the developmental needs of the students.
Meanwhile, Marcelo B. Fernan-Polambato Elementary School received repairs and upgrades to three school buildings containing 16 classrooms that now serve 436 learners. School administrators carefully organized the classroom assignments by age, placing younger pupils on the ground floor for easier access while converting upper-floor spaces into a dedicated Mathematics and Science laboratory and an instructional room that encourages hands-on learning and exploration.

The improvements go beyond new paint and repaired structures. Stronger roofing, upgraded classrooms, and enhanced learning facilities provide students with greater confidence and motivation as they pursue their education.
The project reflects the vision of SM Foundation founder Henry Sy Sr., who believed that education is one of the most effective ways to create opportunities and uplift communities. Through investments in better school facilities, SM Foundation continues to help shape brighter futures for Filipino learners, enabling every classroom to become a place where dreams begin and possibilities grow.
