PLDT Volleyball Stars Recharge with Nagueños at Peñafrancia Festival

Fresh from a podium finish in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference 2026, PLDT High Speed Hitters Alleiah Malaluan and Joan Monares stepped away from the volleyball court and into the colorful streets of Naga City to experience the annual Peñafrancia Festival.

The two outside hitters joined Nagueños and visitors during one of Bicol’s biggest celebrations, which welcomed around 1.2 million devotees to Camarines Sur in a gathering filled with faith, tradition, community spirit, and Bicolano pride.

Their visit came shortly after the High Speed Hitters secured bronze in the Invitational Conference, marking another significant achievement for the team. The result was PLDT’s second consecutive podium finish in the league’s flagship conference after capturing gold the previous year.

After weeks of intense competition, Malaluan and Monares welcomed the opportunity to recharge while connecting with supporters away from the volleyball court.

One of the highlights of their Naga visit was a courtesy call with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and local government officials. The players also participated in meet-and-greet activities, giving local volleyball enthusiasts an opportunity to interact with the athletes.

For Malaluan, a former De La Salle University Lady Spiker, the trip offered both an emotional and spiritual break before returning to competition.

“After such an intense Invitational Conference, our visit in Naga City became such a special breather for us,” Malaluan said. She added that experiencing the support of Nagueño fans reminded the players why they continue to compete and gave them renewed energy for the next conference

Monares, meanwhile, celebrated another personal milestone after earning her first professional volleyball medal following her collegiate career as captain of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.

“The energy in Naga was amazing—it was so full of life!” Monares shared, adding that spending time with the community and meeting supporters helps keep the athletes grounded.

PLDT Home also joined the Peñafrancia festivities through activity booths designed to bring its connectivity services closer to local families and festivalgoers.

Naga City residents who switch to PLDT Home Fiber until December 31, 2026 can also receive 50% off their monthly bill for the first six months and free installation, offering savings of up to ₱3,600.

From volleyball victories to festival celebrations, Malaluan and Monares’ Naga visit brought together sports, community, and connection at the heart of Peñafrancia.
