Manila Water is reinforcing its operational preparedness across the East Zone as unpredictable weather conditions bring the possibility of intense rainfall, flooding and power interruptions during the Habagat season.
To maintain reliable water services despite weather-related disruptions, the company has implemented preventive measures covering its major treatment facilities, reservoirs, emergency equipment and personnel.
Preparedness activities have been completed at Manila Water’s three major water treatment facilities in Quezon City—Balara Treatment Plant 1, Balara Treatment Plant 2 and East La Mesa Treatment Plant. Backup generators are available at each facility to help sustain operations in case severe weather causes power outages.

The company has also conducted inspections and readiness checks across its 33 water reservoirs. At facilities considered vulnerable to flooding, preventive measures such as sandbags and dewatering pumps have been positioned to reduce potential operational impact.
Beyond infrastructure protection, personnel assigned to critical facilities follow emergency protocols covering the availability of fuel, batteries, first-aid and medical kits, food supplies, system backups and other resources necessary to maintain essential operations during emergencies.
Manila Water has also strategically deployed specialized equipment throughout its concession area to enable faster response when communities or facilities are affected by extreme weather.
Its emergency fleet includes six mobile treatment plants, a mobile command center, rescue vehicles, an ambulance, an amphibious vehicle, an all-terrain vehicle, boats, a jet ski and 38 water tankers, among other response assets.
In addition, the company maintains 64 desludging trucks that may be deployed to help siphon floodwater in coordination with local government units during disaster response and recovery operations.
“As weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable, Manila Water has been maintaining resilient operations and ensuring uninterrupted service for our customers, even during the most challenging conditions,” said Manila Water Corporate Communications Head Dittie Galang.
Through early preparation, infrastructure safeguards and strategically positioned emergency resources, Manila Water aims to minimize disruptions and maintain dependable water delivery throughout its East Zone concession area.
The initiatives reflect the company’s continuing focus on strengthening resilience as communities face increasingly unpredictable and severe weather conditions.
