FEU’s 98th Year Celebrates Learning Beyond the Classroom

Far Eastern University (FEU) marked its 98th founding anniversary this February with a series of activities that reflected the university’s long-standing commitment to holistic and practical education. Rather than pausing regular academic life, the celebration from February 9 to 27, 2026, transformed the campus into a dynamic learning environment where traditions honoring the university’s founder unfolded alongside academic discussions, research presentations, and professional development programs.

Throughout the month, students from different colleges—including business, education, tourism, communications, sciences, and the arts—participated in conversations that explored real-world issues shaping today’s professional landscape. Topics ranged from workplace adaptability and entrepreneurship to sustainability, innovation, and resilience in rapidly changing industries. These discussions allowed students to engage with ideas that extend beyond textbooks and classrooms.

A notable aspect of the celebration was the strong presence of industry partners and alumni who joined faculty members in mentoring and sharing insights with students. Corporate leaders, professionals, and practitioners contributed to forums and dialogues that bridged academic learning with real-world practice. Their participation underscored FEU’s approach to education—one that integrates academic knowledge with industry relevance.

According to Dr. Joeven Castro, Vice President for Student Development and Continuing Education, the anniversary activities reflected the university’s enduring mission. He explained that FEU was founded to make meaningful education accessible, and that mission continues to guide how the institution prepares students today. Beyond academic instruction, the university aims to build confidence, adaptability, and practical skills that enable students to thrive in professional environments or pursue entrepreneurial paths.

Among the key initiatives highlighted during the celebration was The TamFLEX Series: FEUture-Ready Learning & Employability eXperience, a three-day workshop designed to strengthen career readiness among Tamaraws. Through a combination of career talks, skill-building activities, and interactive sessions, students gained insights into workplace expectations while developing competencies needed for internships and employment opportunities.

The TamFLEX Series began on January 27 in partnership with Philippine Transmarine Carriers and continued with a multi-session collaboration with Megaworld Corporation starting February 19. These partnerships demonstrate FEU’s sustained effort to connect students with industry leaders and real professional opportunities.

For Ar. Raquel Baquiran, Vice President for Career Development, career readiness is not a single event but an ongoing process that requires consistent collaboration between universities and industry partners. Through structured programs and mentorship opportunities, FEU helps students translate their academic learning into long-term career pathways.

As the university moves closer to its centennial celebration in 2028, the 98th anniversary highlights FEU’s evolving approach to education—honoring its heritage while continuously refining how it prepares future Tamaraws to succeed in an increasingly complex and competitive world.
