Cebu once again demonstrated its growing stature as one of Southeast Asia’s leading destinations for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) as it successfully hosted the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in 2026. The international gathering not only highlighted the province’s capability to stage large-scale events but also placed Filipino hospitality at the center of the experience, leaving a lasting impression on regional leaders, delegates, and international guests.
Building on the momentum generated by the successful staging of the ASEAN Tourism Forum earlier this year, Cebu welcomed another major regional event that tested its readiness for high-level diplomatic engagements. The summit became a showcase of how government agencies, private organizations, and hospitality stakeholders can work together to deliver a seamless and memorable experience.

According to ASEAN National Organizing Council Director General for Operations Hellen B. De La Vega, the summit’s success stemmed from strong collaboration among all participating sectors. She emphasized that the event was made possible through close coordination, a shared sense of responsibility, and a collective commitment to service.
A significant contribution came from Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, whose Sampaguita Brand of Service was prominently displayed through the efforts of Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown and Mercure Mactan Cebu. Both properties played vital roles in accommodating delegates, managing culinary services, and ensuring efficient coordination between the hotels and the Mactan Expo within The Mactan Newtown.

The township’s integrated setup proved to be a major advantage. By bringing together hotels, convention facilities, restaurants, transportation access, and support services within one connected destination, organizers were able to streamline logistics and enhance mobility, security, and operational efficiency throughout the summit.
Megaworld Hotels & Resorts Managing Director and Cebu MICE Alliance President Cleofe Albiso noted that while the ASEAN Tourism Forum already demonstrated Cebu’s potential as a premier MICE destination, the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit further solidified the province’s reputation on the global stage. She added that the event allowed Cebu to showcase not only operational excellence but also the warmth and graciousness that define Filipino hospitality.

Beyond infrastructure and logistics, the summit highlighted one of Cebu’s greatest strengths—its people. Hundreds of hospitality professionals worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every aspect of the event ran smoothly. Their dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail reflected the high standards expected of world-class destinations.
Mercure Mactan Cebu welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and members of the Philippine delegation, creating local experiences that celebrated Cebuano culture while embracing the brand’s “Feeling Local Everywhere” philosophy. Guests were introduced to authentic regional flavors, traditions, and cultural elements that reflected the identity of Cebu.

Meanwhile, Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown elevated the guest experience through a carefully curated sensory journey. Delegates were greeted with the signature scent of Sampaguita, welcomed by staff dressed in traditional Filipiniana attire, and treated to locally inspired delicacies such as chocolate-coated kakanin, otap, rosquillos, and dried mango chocolate. These thoughtful touches transformed every stay into a celebration of Cebuano heritage and Filipino pride.
Both hotels, along with the Mactan Expo, also secured the Department of Health’s Certified Sanitation Standard, reinforcing their commitment to safety and service excellence for high-profile international guests.

As the summit concluded, Cebu emerged not only as a capable host of major international gatherings but also as a destination that combines modern infrastructure with authentic human warmth. Through the combined efforts of government agencies, private sector partners, and hospitality professionals, the province successfully showcased the best of the Philippines to the world, further strengthening its position as a premier MICE hub in Southeast Asia.
