The rise of content creation, where creativity meets technology, has reshaped the media landscape and opened new career opportunities in creative digital marketing. Institutions like Asia Pacific College (APC), a non-profit school under the SM Group, are leading the way in preparing students for these emerging roles through innovative programs like Multimedia Arts.
As highlighted by John Clements Consultants, digital marketing has become one of the top five emerging jobs in the Philippines, with a growing demand for professionals skilled in creating multimedia content for social media platforms. Jobstreet reports that the average salary of a digital marketing specialist in the country is Php 30,000 per month, underscoring the field’s viability as a stable career path.
Bridging Creativity and Technology
Founded in 1991 through a partnership between SM Foundation and IBM Philippines, APC has long championed quality education that aligns with industry needs. Its Multimedia Arts program is specifically designed to blend creativity with technology, equipping its 384 current students with skills in areas such as 2D and 3D animation, digital sculpting, video production, sound design, and multimedia publishing.
“Our program focuses on in-depth, hands-on learning,” explains APC Executive Director Robert Besana. “Students spend extensive time in the studio honing their craft, guided by industry-experienced mentors who act as facilitators rather than traditional lecturers.”
Real-World Experience from Industry Experts
APC’s instructors are seasoned practitioners who bring industry insights into the classroom. One such mentor is Jaime Pacena II, a renowned visual artist and filmmaker who won Best Director at the 2024 Cinemalaya Film Festival for his film Kono-Basho, shot entirely in Japan.
“I involve my students in real-world projects,” shares Pacena. “Some have worked with me on music videos and even on my award-winning film. This exposure not only builds their skills but also boosts their confidence.”
Through APC’s project-based learning, students collaborate with real clients and gain practical experience. Graduates of the Multimedia Arts program have pursued careers in post-production, TV directing, corporate videos, and even established their own studios, contributing to the growing creative industry.
By blending technology, creativity, and mentorship, Asia Pacific College continues to transform art education into a pathway for meaningful careers in the digital age.
