In the heart of Quezon City, 2025 unfolded as a year of meaningful environmental progress for La Mesa Ecopark, where restoration, education, and community action converged to shape a greener urban future. Guided by the Manila Water Foundation, the Ecopark strengthened its role not only as a sanctuary for biodiversity but also as a living classroom where thousands rediscovered their connection to nature and the vital watershed that sustains Metro Manila.
Collaboration stood at the center of this transformation. Working alongside more than 180 partner organizations and supported by thousands of volunteers, the Ecopark expanded its conservation reach through sustained urban forest restoration. Over the course of the year, 14,342 endemic and native trees were planted and nurtured across 35 hectares of forest land—an achievement made possible through dozens of hands-on activities such as tree growing, seed preparation, and soil cultivation. Participation reflected a broad community movement, with more than 5,000 volunteers and over 8,000 learners engaging in environmental programs designed to deepen awareness of biodiversity, water security, and climate responsibility.

Beyond numbers, the experience reshaped perspectives. Visitors frequently described their time in the Ecopark as both grounding and transformative, offering rare opportunities to step away from the pace of city life and understand how green spaces directly influence the water that flows into homes, businesses, and industries. These encounters turned conservation from an abstract concept into a personal commitment—one rooted in shared responsibility.
The year also introduced new spaces that blend recreation with ecological learning. A Butterfly Garden now welcomes guests into an interactive encounter with local species, while an Outdoor Court provides room for movement, wellness, and community gathering within a natural setting. Organized tours for schools and institutions further strengthened the Ecopark’s role as a center for experiential education, nurturing future stewards of the environment.
Looking ahead, momentum continues to build. Conservation programs are set to expand in 2026, including the rehabilitation of additional areas and new planting initiatives within the La Mesa Nature Reserve guided by Assisted Natural Regeneration. With planting season bookings opening from June to October, the Ecopark invites more individuals and groups to take part in activities that unite environmental care with active, healthy living.
What emerged in 2025 is more than a series of accomplishments—it is a growing movement of collective stewardship. Each tree planted, lesson shared, and volunteer welcomed signals hope for stronger biodiversity, protected water sources, and communities empowered to act for the climate. As La Mesa Ecopark moves forward, it stands as a quiet but powerful reminder that lasting environmental change begins when people choose to care together.
