Manulife is charting a bold path toward the future of healthy aging with the launch of its Global Longevity Institute — a groundbreaking platform designed to help people live longer, healthier, and more financially resilient lives. Backed by a monumental US$350 million commitment through 2030, the Institute marks one of the company’s most ambitious missions to date, reshaping how health, wellness, and financial security are understood across generations.
As life expectancy rises, the world faces a growing paradox: people are living longer, but many are spending more years in poor health or without adequate financial stability. Recognizing this widening gap between lifespan and healthspan, Manulife’s Longevity Institute aims to redefine how individuals navigate aging — from daily choices that nurture well-being to long-term planning that ensures financial confidence.
Manulife President and CEO Phil Witherington emphasized that longevity is not merely about adding years to life, but ensuring those years are lived with quality and purpose. He highlighted the company’s unique position to drive global change after decades of supporting people through life’s milestones. “We see a powerful opportunity to partner with communities, expand innovation, and create a future where everyone can thrive at any age,” he said.

In Asia alone, the urgency is clear: by 2050, one in four people will be over 60. Steve Finch, President and CEO of Manulife Asia, noted that the region is at the forefront of demographic shifts that demand new thinking in health care, financial planning, and workforce inclusion. Through the Institute, Manulife hopes to spark region-wide solutions that support equitable, healthy aging and long-term financial resilience.
The Longevity Institute will spearhead global research, innovation, and community investments. Among its initial projects are the Ageing in Canada Survey with the National Institute on Ageing; expanded research with the Milken Institute on aging-at-home systems and food-as-health interventions; and Longevity Symposiums in key global markets, including recent events in Singapore and the Philippines. These gatherings unite healthcare leaders, financial experts, and community partners to challenge existing norms and imagine better pathways to aging well.
The Institute builds on Manulife’s long history of impact — a legacy that began in 1888 with the donation of an ambulance to support public health. Today, the company serves over 36 million customers worldwide, and its new longevity platform aims to amplify that reach by focusing on two core outcomes: empowering everyday health choices and strengthening financial security for life’s journey.
Through research collaborations, global advocacy, and community-driven programs, the Longevity Institute represents Manulife’s long-term commitment to shaping a world where extended life is not a burden, but a gift — one supported by knowledge, innovation, and meaningful action.
