When Creativity Finds a Cause: Maxi Tungol’s “Art Meets 2Hearts”

For artist Maxi “Imax” Tungol, painting is more than expression—it’s an act of giving. Her first solo exhibition, Art Meets 2Hearts, goes beyond celebrating art; it bridges creativity with compassion. A portion of the proceeds from the show will directly support the Oblate Apostles of the Two Hearts (OATH), whose mission is to uplift and empower underprivileged youth.

The collaboration is fitting. Tungol, a self-taught painter with a career rooted in advertising and video production, has long believed in art’s ability to tell stories that matter. With OATH, she finds a partner who shares her vision of using talent and passion as tools for change.

Her works are as eclectic as her materials. Oil, acrylic, gouache, and ink often collide with torn book pages, lace, driftwood, powdered pigment, or even bits of plastic. Each canvas becomes a playground for experimentation, where the ordinary transforms into something unexpected. Tungol describes her style simply as “freestyle”—a mix of irony, humor, and discovery that reflects her way of seeing the world.

What makes her art compelling is its refusal to conform. Shoes, cityscapes, or surreal figures might appear side by side in her exhibit, stitched together by her curiosity and playfulness. The results are often surprising, sometimes unconventional, but always thought-provoking.

Now free from the demands of commercial work, Tungol devotes her time to exploring these impressions of life, layering them with subtle social commentary and unfiltered imagination. “I just want my art to be a conversation,” she shares, “whether it makes you laugh, reflect, or see something in a new way.”

Art Meets 2Hearts is hosted by Badass Art Gallery in Pasig City, a space known for championing emerging voices in Philippine art. More than a showcase, it is a reminder that every brushstroke can be a step toward meaningful impact.

By supporting this exhibit, collectors and visitors aren’t just taking home a piece of Imax’s creativity—they are helping build brighter futures for OATH’s young beneficiaries.

Catch the exhibit at Badass Art Gallery, Felix Avenue, Pasig (near Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall), until October 15, 2025.
