In a country known for sun, sand, and sea, a different kind of heat is building—one forged on ice. As the 33rd Southeast Asian Games unfold in Bangkok, Team Philippines steps into arenas few once imagined Filipinos would command. Speed skating, figure skating, and ice hockey have become unlikely stages of national pride, where Filipino athletes are redefining what is possible beyond traditional sports.

This SEA Games campaign is not just about competition; it is about visibility and belief. Across disciplines, Filipino skaters are showing that ice sports are no longer novelties—they are pathways of excellence. Behind every explosive sprint, graceful spin, and thunderous body check is years of discipline, sacrifice, and a growing support system that starts at home.

In short track speed skating, the margins are razor-thin. A split second can mean triumph or heartbreak. Athletes like Caitlyn Benitez, Shaelynn Bolos, Xsandrie Guimba, Ethelmae Suguitan, Peter Groseclose, Hans Buemio, JC Asuncion, and Sun Phil Zablan race with precision honed through countless hours of training. Many of those hours were spent at SM Skating Megamall, where controlled chaos on the rink teaches skaters how to thrive under pressure.

Figure skating tells a different story—one of balance, control, and expression. Maxine Bautista, Cathryn Limketkai, Paolo Borromeo, and Brandon Baldoz bring international experience and refined artistry to the SEA Games ice. Their performances reflect a blend of global training and local inspiration, proof that Filipino skaters can match elegance with power on a world stage. As interest grows, SM Skating branches nationwide are quietly nurturing the next generation of performers who dream of the same spotlight.

Perhaps the boldest chapter comes from ice hockey. Alongside the men’s team, the Philippines debuts its first-ever women’s ice hockey squad at the SEA Games—a historic moment for gender representation and sporting progress. Trained at SM Skating Mall of Asia, both teams embody resilience, teamwork, and fearlessness.

From spectators to future athletes, the journey begins somewhere. Through the SM Skating Academy, the ice opens to everyone willing to try. As Team Philippines skates forward in Bangkok, they leave behind more than scores—they leave inspiration, inviting a tropical nation to claim its place on ice.
