Marking more than three decades of service, the Virlanie Foundation, Inc. celebrated its 33rd anniversary on August 18, 2025, reaffirming its mission to uplift the lives of marginalized Filipino children. Since its founding in 1992, Virlanie has provided protection, care, and opportunities to over 22,000 young lives—continuing its journey of compassion that began with its founder, French social worker Dominique Lemay, fondly called Kuya Dominique.
The milestone celebration, which also honored Lemay’s 75th birthday, reflected on Virlanie’s enduring vision: to break the cycle of poverty and give every child the chance to grow with dignity. “Do small things. Do something for the children of Virlanie. I cannot do it alone, but together, we can change lives,” Lemay shared in his heartfelt message.
Virlanie’s programs span child protection, education, family reunification, community empowerment, and support for children with special needs. By combining direct care with sustainable solutions, the foundation aims not only to shelter children but to empower families and communities so that fewer children end up abandoned or living on the streets.
The anniversary was also a moment to honor individuals who have devoted their lives to Virlanie’s mission. Among the awardees was Ferdinand Cellona, who has served as Street Education Lead for 20 years. “Every child on the street has a story and a dream,” Cellona said. “With Virlanie, we make sure no child is left behind.” His words echoed the foundation’s belief that guidance, listening, and trust can change a child’s future.
The event also spotlighted new supporters like Jakob Walland, who has sponsored the education of 42 children. “If a child gains an education or a skill, they can help themselves and their families. That is what Virlanie makes possible,” he noted, emphasizing the transformative power of education.
The evening featured performances by Virlanie Voices, the foundation’s children’s choir, and renowned artist Jose Mari Chan. Supported by sponsors including Raffles and Fairmont Makati, Hacket Security Group, and Uniquecorn Strategies, the celebration gathered friends, families, and partners united by one cause: giving hope to children who need it most.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize the work ahead,” Lemay said. “Our mission continues, because thousands of children still face daily struggles without access to basic care and a safe home.”
