Sunshine Place at 11: Celebrating Art, Wellness, and Community

Sunshine Place, the beloved senior recreation hub under the Felicidad T. Sy Foundation, marked its 11th anniversary with a lively celebration that captured the warmth, talent, and spirit of its vibrant community. This year’s cowboy-themed festivity was filled with music, dance, and laughter—highlighted by dazzling performances from D’Legends, a powerhouse group composed of dance icons Laly and Terri Aldeguer, Maribeth Bichara, and Mel Feliciano. Their energy on stage was proof that passion and rhythm know no age.

A highlight of the event was the turnover of donations to Fr Daryl of Josefheim Foundation from proceeds of Sunshine Place’s recent Coloring Lives Exhibit at the Podium.

Beyond the festivities, the celebration reflected on eleven inspiring reasons that make Sunshine Place a true home of creativity, wellness, and connection. From its “Art is Ageless” classes that bring generations together through painting and porcelain art, to programs that nurture self-expression like voice, speech, and music therapy, the center continues to prove that lifelong learning is the key to staying young at heart.

Its dance classes—from ballroom to tap, Yeba Indak, and even chair dancing—keep members fit, graceful, and confident. For those with a love for words, writing workshops open doors to storytelling and reflection. Fitness and therapy sessions ensure health and mobility, while Ikebana Sogetsu workshops teach the art of bringing peace and beauty into everyday spaces.

Special guest Maribeth Bichara is best known for her work in the 1980s comedy variety show T.O.D.A.S. She has remained active in the performing arts and Sunshine Place President Lizanne Uychaco with long time member Harvey Chua.

Members also find time for pampering at Footzone and Vivify Salon, or enjoy wholesome meals and good company at Happy Garden Café by Bizu. Spiritual wellness is nurtured at the chapel on the roof deck, where Friday Masses and vow renewals bring quiet joy and renewal.

But perhaps the true heart of Sunshine Place lies in its warm relationships and spirit of sharing. Over the years, members have formed lasting friendships through classes, trips, and advocacy. The center’s art exhibits have also supported meaningful causes—this year benefitting the Josefheim Elderly Care Community in Rizal, which provides a home and hope for abandoned elderly.

Another best performer: The Tap Dance Advanced.

Located along 56 Jupiter Street, Makati, Sunshine Place continues to shine as a sanctuary where art, wellness, and compassion meet—proving that every year, and every life lived fully, is something to celebrate.
