Sony Expands Creative Reach with New G Master Telephoto Lens

Sony Electronics is strengthening its lineup of professional imaging tools with the introduction of the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, a new super-telephoto zoom lens designed for creators who demand speed, reach, and precision in the field.

Built for Sony’s full-frame Alpha E-mount camera system, the newest G Master lens targets photographers and videographers covering wildlife, sports, birding, and fast-paced action. Combining long-range capability with a constant F4.5 aperture, the lens is engineered to deliver sharp detail and smooth background separation across the entire zoom range.

At the core of the lens is Sony’s advanced optical engineering, featuring a newly developed ED XA element alongside XA, Super ED, and ED glass components. This setup helps suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations while maintaining clarity from edge to edge, even at maximum aperture. Sony also integrated Nano AR Coating II technology to reduce flare and ghosting, particularly useful in difficult lighting conditions such as backlit outdoor environments.Speed is another major focus of the release. Sony says the lens delivers autofocus performance up to three times faster than its predecessor while significantly improving subject tracking. Powered by four XD Linear Motors and updated autofocus algorithms, the system is built to keep up with rapidly moving subjects, including athletes and wildlife in motion. The lens is also fully compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s continuous shooting capabilities of up to 120 frames per second with AF/AE tracking.

Despite its long-range capabilities, the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS maintains a lightweight and balanced design at approximately 1,840 grams. Its internal zoom mechanism keeps the lens length constant during operation, helping improve stability and handling while shooting handheld or tracking subjects.

Sony also equipped the lens with professional-level controls and durability features, including built-in image stabilization, customizable focus hold buttons, breathing compensation support for video creators, and a dust- and moisture-resistant body with fluorine coating protection.

The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS is now available for pre-order. Customers who purchase the lens from May 15, 2025 to June 26, 2026 will receive a free teleconverter of their choice, either the 1.4x or 2.0x version, along with exclusive premium merchandise through MySony registration.
