Garmin is strengthening its presence in the growing golf technology market with the launch of the new Garmin Approach G82, a portable device that combines launch monitor capabilities with advanced GPS features in one compact system. Designed for golfers looking to improve both practice sessions and on-course decision-making, the new device introduces expanded swing analytics and new putting metrics aimed at helping players sharpen every aspect of their game.
The launch reflects the continued rise of golf participation worldwide, particularly among younger players. Garmin reported strong growth among golfers under 20 years old, as well as players in their twenties, signaling how technology-driven training tools are becoming increasingly important in modern golf. According to the company’s latest golf data report, players using Garmin launch monitors or simulators improved their scores by an average of 4.4 strokes after six months of use, highlighting the growing impact of performance tracking in the sport.
At the center of the Approach G82 is its built-in radar system, which allows golfers to monitor essential swing data such as ball speed, club speed, smash factor, and tempo. The device also debuts handheld putting metrics, offering insights into stroke length, ball speed, and putting tempo—features aimed at helping players develop more consistent performance on the greens.
Garmin also designed the device to function beyond the driving range. Golfers can use bag mapping to record the average distance of each club, helping the virtual caddie feature recommend smarter club selections during actual rounds. Other practice-focused tools include target practice modes, tempo training, and club speed training without requiring ball contact.
On the course, the Approach G82 provides GPS-powered features including enhanced PlaysLike distance adjustments, wind data, hazard awareness, and aerial hole imagery when paired with the Garmin Golf app. The handheld can also sync with compatible Garmin rangefinders and club tracking sensors for more advanced game analysis.
Built for outdoor conditions, the device carries an IPX7 water resistance rating and offers up to 25 hours of battery life in GPS mode. The magnetic mounting system also allows golfers to secure it easily on carts or golf bags during play.
The Garmin Approach G82 became available in the Philippines beginning May 8 through Garmin Philippines with a suggested retail price of PHP 38,290.
