SM Prime Expands Cebu’s Entertainment Scene

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is strengthening Cebu’s position as a premier destination for live entertainment with more than 20 major events scheduled at the newly opened SM Seaside Cebu Arena in 2026. The lineup includes local and international concerts, sporting events, theatrical productions, and family-oriented shows, bringing large-scale entertainment closer to audiences in the Visayas.

The initiative forms part of SM Prime’s efforts to help grow Cebu’s concert economy while generating wider economic benefits for tourism and related industries. According to SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim, hosting major events encourages visitor spending that extends beyond the venue, creating opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, retailers, and other local businesses.

Lim noted that the growing demand for live experiences reflects changing consumer preferences, particularly among Millennials and Gen Z, who increasingly value memorable activities over material purchases. He added that live entertainment has become an important part of lifestyle spending, with audiences seeking experiences that are meaningful, shareable, and engaging.

Technology also plays a key role in supporting this growth. SM Prime recently partnered with global ticketing company Ticketmaster to introduce SM Ticketmaster, a new platform that combines Ticketmaster’s international ticketing expertise and fraud protection with SM Prime’s established local network. The system is expected to provide a more secure and seamless ticket-buying experience for eventgoers.

Designed as one of the country’s newest world-class entertainment venues, SM Seaside Cebu Arena is equipped with the most advanced center-hung display in the Visayas, offering enhanced visuals for concerts, sporting events, family shows, corporate gatherings, circus productions, and other large-scale performances.

Located within the South Road Properties (SRP), the arena is directly connected to SM Seaside City Cebu and will soon be integrated with the SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu, Park Inn by Radisson, and Radisson Hotel. Together, these developments are expected to transform the area into a major hub for entertainment, conventions, tourism, and business activities, further reinforcing Cebu’s role as a key destination for world-class events in the Philippines.
