SM Hotels and Convention Corp. (SMHCC), the hospitality arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc., is gearing up for a significant expansion that will reshape its footprint across the Philippines. By 2029, the company plans to add over 1,300 new hotel rooms, bolstering its presence in both established and emerging tourist hubs.
Currently operating 10 hotels nationwide, SMHCC is set to increase its portfolio to 17 properties. This expansion will grow the company’s total room inventory from 2,602 to 3,923—a substantial 51% increase. Most of these new rooms, totaling 969, are expected to open by 2028.
To support this aggressive growth, SMHCC has allocated a P10 billion capital expenditure budget. The company will finance this expansion entirely through its internally generated funds, reflecting its strong financial position and confidence in sustained profitability.
Six of the upcoming hotels will bear the Park Inn by Radisson brand, while one will be developed under the Radisson name. This strategic branding strengthens SMHCC’s foothold in the midscale and upscale markets, capitalizing on synergies with SM Prime’s network of malls, convention centers, and mixed-use properties.
SMHCC Executive Vice President Peggy Angeles emphasized the company’s optimism about the local tourism sector. “We firmly believe in the long-term growth of the Philippine travel and tourism industry,” Angeles said. “Our developments aim to support regional tourism while enhancing our integrated communities.”
Interestingly, only one of the seven new hotels will be located in Metro Manila. The rest will rise in fast-growing regions: Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Cebu, and Laoag. SMHCC carefully selected these sites for their high tourism potential and proximity to other SM Prime developments.
Today, SMHCC’s portfolio includes a mix of luxury, leisure, and business hotels such as Conrad Manila, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu, Taal Vista Hotel, and Park Inn by Radisson properties. This diversified lineup positions SM Hotels to serve a broad range of travelers, from vacationers to corporate guests.
“Our hotels not only provide quality accommodations but also stimulate local economies,” Angeles added. “We are deeply committed to creating long-term value by driving job creation, supporting tourism, and contributing to the growth of SM Prime’s diversified businesses.”
