Reshaping the Filipina Body with the Brazilian Butt Lift

In 2012, Dr. Eric “Doc Yappy” Yapjuangco of The Icon Clinic started a revolution – the body revolution, that is. He pioneered a surgical procedure that reshapes a person’s body, giving them a more shapely and supple posterior. Ten years later, Doc Yappy still continues to lead the pack when it comes to the Brazilian Butt Lift which, according to him is “a 2-in-1 procedure where we liposuction your problem areas like the abdomen, arms, back, etc. Instead of throwing away the fats, we inject it to the hips and butt to make it fuller and rounder.”

When asked whether he pioneered the procedure in the Philippines, he said, “Yes, I started doing this in 2012. Hindi pa siya uso dito sa Philippines, I started doing it already. We have Kim Kardashian and Nikki Minaj to thank for the Brazilian Butt Lift. They are the reasons why it became more mainstream.”

As years go by, people’s ideas of beauty changes, or perhaps, people tend to be more accepting of various notions of what it means to be beautiful. In the late 1990s, together with the Latin explosion came the idea of the voluptuous body. We saw the rise in popularity of the Latina or hourglass body type, which to this day, many consider as the sexiest body type.

Doc Yappy believes 2022 will be an even bigger year for BBL. “In the Philippines, it’s going to be the butt. It’s going to get bigger. Other surgeons have already started doing it because it’s now more mainstream. So, definitely more and more people are going to be more knowledgeable about the Brazilian Butt Lift.”

Doc Yappy emphasizes the importance of knowing a patient’s expectations and the kind of body they want to achieve before surgery. He believes it is vital for both patient and doctor to be on the same page and to have realistic, achievable goals.

When asked about the procedure for BBL, Doc Yappy said, “We liposuction the problem areas, which is usually the upper and lower abdomen. And then normally we add the arms, we add the back, and instead of throwing away the fat, we inject it to the hips and butt to give women that hourglass shape.”

As women get older, they lose muscle, fat, and elasticity of the skin. However, Doc Yappy, does not want older women to feel discouraged. “With older women, definitely you have to fill out the fat. The fat will give you volume. But then if there’s some excess skin, or when your butt is drooping, you have to make an incision on the top of the butt to lift it up or remove the excess skin. It really depends. It’s case to case so you have to assess every patient,” he said.

Doc Yappy continues to attract clients because of his very pleasant demeanor and fun TikTok videos. He believes social media is a great way to reach more people and that there is no harm in showing them one’s fun side.  But aside from being one of the most charismatic plastic surgeons in the Philippines, Doc Yappy is also one of a kind.

He is the only Filipino member of the World Association of Gluteal Surgeons (WAGS), and people trust him because of his expertise and the kind of training he has undergone abroad together with other world-renowned surgeons who are also experts in the field. To date, Doc Yappy has performed over a thousand BBLs.

Doc Yappy continues to excel in the field of BBL because he never stops learning. His unbridled passion for the field of plastic surgery, and in particular BBL, is unrivaled. For his patients, it is all or nothing, and for this reason, he and The Icon Clinic are the only choice for BBL.
