Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) is strengthening its Board of Trustees with the appointment of two experienced corporate leaders, while recognizing outgoing trustees whose years of service have helped advance the organization’s social development initiatives across the country.
Leo L. Capinpin, Country General Manager and Technology Leader of IBM Philippines, and Emil Andre M. Garcia, President of Vivant Corporation, have joined PBSP as its newest trustees, bringing extensive experience in technology, business leadership, energy, infrastructure, and corporate social responsibility.
IBM Philippines, one of PBSP’s founding members, has maintained a long partnership with the organization, particularly in programs supporting education and workforce development. Capinpin brings more than 25 years of experience at IBM, where he currently oversees business strategy, sales, and technical functions. His background includes financial services and information technology, covering hardware, software, and infrastructure solutions.
Garcia, meanwhile, will represent PBSP members in the Visayas and assume the chairmanship of the Visayas Regional Committee. Vivant Corporation has been a PBSP member since 2009 and has collaborated with the organization on environmental projects, including reforestation efforts in Cebu.
As president of both Vivant Corporation and Vivant Energy Corporation, Garcia oversees businesses and investments involving energy and water. His responsibilities also cover conventional and renewable energy generation, power distribution, and retail electricity operations in different parts of the Philippines.
Garcia succeeds Jose Antonio “Tonio” Y. Aboitiz, who concluded 18 years of service representing Davao Light and Power Company, Inc. on the PBSP Board.
During his tenure, Aboitiz chaired the Visayas Regional Committee and the Audit and Risk Management Committee. His involvement included supporting disaster relief programs for communities affected by typhoons and flooding, as well as the Olango Challenge, an annual open-water swimming event that generated funds for school construction benefiting students on Olango Island.
PBSP also recognized Aileen Judan-Jiao, IBM ASEAN Technology Lifecycle Services Leader, following eight years of service as IBM Philippines’ representative on the Board from 2018 to 2026. She also served as Chair of PBSP’s Human Resources and Retirement Committee.
IBM and PBSP have worked together on initiatives such as IBM SkillsBuild and P-TECH, which aim to equip young Filipinos with skills and opportunities relevant to their future careers.
The leadership transition reflects PBSP’s continuing partnership with Philippine businesses in addressing social, environmental, and economic development challenges. As Capinpin and Garcia begin their roles, the organization also acknowledged the contributions of Aboitiz and Judan-Jiao, whose years of board service supported PBSP’s programs and institutional development.
