The stage was set, the music was pumping, and the Queen City of the South witnessed history as the Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines National Final made its Cebu debut on May 24. After months of thrilling battles in Davao, Manila, and Cebu, the country’s best dancers converged at Ayala Center Cebu for a night of freestyle brilliance, crowd-powered decisions, and homegrown pride.
Among the fierce contenders, one dancer stood out. Sam Rivera, known in the dance community as Nemesis, seized the spotlight and claimed the national crown in front of her hometown crowd. For Nemesis, this victory was extra special—it was her third attempt at the title and her first win, right in the heart of Cebu.
“This is my third time joining Red Bull Dance Your Style, and winning here in Cebu makes it even more meaningful,” Nemesis shared. “It’s not just for me—it’s for my family, my friends, and my community who’ve supported me from day one.”
Dancing to unpredictable beats where only the crowd decides the winner, Nemesis dazzled with her signature krump style, unwavering energy, and connection to the audience. Her hometown crowd fueled her through each round, creating an electric atmosphere that pushed her to the top.
“The Cebuano crowd carried me,” she said. “The love and support from my community made me feel powerful on stage.”
The National Final wasn’t just about dance—it became a true celebration of Cebu’s creative spirit. The event featured explosive performances from local artists, including Cebuana star Karencitta and homegrown dance crew SZHD, giving the night a distinctly Cebuano vibe.
With the Philippine championship secured, Nemesis now prepares for her biggest challenge yet: representing the country at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Los Angeles this October. It will be her first time traveling outside Asia, and she’s ready to bring the heat.
“I’ll just be myself,” Nemesis said. “I want to show the world how I krump and what Filipino dancers can do. My focus is to train not just my body, but also my mind and spirit.”
As Nemesis sets her sights on the world stage, the entire Cebuano and Filipino dance community stands behind her, ready to cheer her on as she takes her rightful place among the best dancers across the globe.
