NBTC National Finals showcase the future of Filipino basketball at SM MOA Arena

In an intense Day One matchup, Proudly Pinoy Filcom Italy dominates Jazzville Sports Middle East with a 77-72 victory.

The National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) League is set to electrify the SM Mall of Asia Arena with its 2025 National Finals, running from March 31 to April 6. This weeklong tournament will culminate in the crowning of new Division 1 and Division 2 champions, alongside the much-anticipated All-Star games.

Nurturing Young Basketball Talent

Established in 2007 by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Inc. (SBP), the NBTC program began as a training ground for local athletes aiming for the 2010 Youth Olympics. Over the years, it has transformed into a platform dedicated to discovering and honing young basketball talents from across the Philippines. The program now also embraces international teams, featuring both Filipino and foreign players, broadening its competitive landscape.

An integral part of the NBTC initiative is the Coaches’ Convention, held in various provinces. Here, esteemed coaches share their knowledge and mentor local trainers, fostering a community of learning and development.

SM’s Role in Elevating NBTC

Since 2016, SM Sports Development has been a pivotal sponsor of the NBTC, enhancing the league’s media presence and ensuring its sustainability. The world-class SM Mall of Asia Arena has become the home for the National Finals, solidifying the NBTC’s reputation among basketball enthusiasts. This partnership has been instrumental in establishing the NBTC as the premier grassroots basketball program in the country.

Forging Future Basketball Stars

The NBTC has been a launchpad for numerous players who have made significant strides in professional basketball. Notable alumni include Arvin Tolentino, Jeron Teng, and Troy Rosario, who have excelled in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Gilas Pilipinas standouts Kai Sotto and Carl Tamayo also trace their roots back to the NBTC. In the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), talents like Evan Nelle, Jared Bahay, JD Cagulangan, and Gerry Abadiano have emerged from this program.

Anticipated Highlights of the National Finals

The 2025 NBTC National Finals will feature 32 teams competing in preliminary rounds from March 31 to April 4. The “Fearless 4” teams will be recognized on April 5, setting the stage for the final matchups. Saturday’s events will also showcase the inaugural Manila Live Girls and Boys tournaments, along with the eagerly awaited All-Star games. The tournament will conclude on April 6 with the championship games for both divisions.
