MWIS Innovation Recognized by UN WIPO for Advancing Sustainable Water Solutions

Manila Water Infratech Solutions (MWIS) has earned international recognition as its i-TECH Packaged Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was featured in the Green Technology Book – EXPO 2025 Special Edition by the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The publication, released in anticipation of EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan, highlights more than 200 breakthrough energy technologies driving sustainability across the Asia-Pacific region—the world’s fastest-growing and most energy-intensive area.

WIPO’s Green Technology Book aims to connect innovators and technology users, showcasing real-world solutions that address climate challenges and accelerate the global transition toward cleaner energy and sustainable living. In the category of “Green Urban Energy Solutions – Energy Efficiency for Water Utilities,” MWIS’s i-TECH Packaged STP stood out as a pioneering system that redefines wastewater management through advanced membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology.

Designed for small to medium-scale applications, the i-TECH Packaged STP combines compact design, energy-efficient aeration, and exceptional water purification capabilities. The treated water it produces can be reused for irrigation, landscaping, or industrial processes—reducing freshwater demand in urban environments. Its modular build makes it ideal for dense cities where space is limited, while its efficient MBR process minimizes sludge generation and removes more contaminants, including bacteria and viruses.

This same technology is already being widely adopted in countries like Japan and China for urban wastewater treatment and decentralized water recycling—proving its adaptability and long-term sustainability benefits. For MWIS, the recognition from WIPO reaffirms its mission to provide smart, scalable, and eco-efficient water solutions that balance technological innovation with environmental stewardship.

By being featured alongside other cutting-edge green technologies, MWIS strengthens the Philippines’ role in the region’s sustainability movement—championing innovation that supports both urban development and ecological resilience.
