A brilliant celebration is set to shine in the heart of Manila as Sun Life Philippines marks its 130th anniversary with a breathtaking installation called the Circle of Light. In partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines, global solar advocacy group Liter of Light, and local creative hub Odangputik Art Space, the initiative is a vibrant fusion of science, art, and social impact.
From July 2 to 9, 2025, the grounds of the National Museum of Natural History will be transformed into a glowing landscape made up of more than 3,500 handcrafted solar lamps—each one a testament to sustainability, community effort, and Filipino creativity. The installation not only aims to break a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the largest display of solar-powered lamps but also serves a deeper purpose: every lamp will later be donated to off-grid communities in Talim Island and Region IV-A.
Beyond the visual spectacle, Circle of Light symbolizes collective hope. These solar lamps, built by volunteers and partners, reflect a commitment to renewable energy and meaningful change. The National Museum sees the project as more than an exhibit—it’s a cultural movement. “Circle of Light showcases our shared dedication with Sun Life to green and sustainable advocacies,” said Deputy Director-General Jorell Legaspi.
At the heart of the initiative is Liter of Light, whose mission is to teach communities how to build solar-powered lanterns using locally available materials. “Circle of Light exemplifies our belief that everyone can contribute to change,” shared Ami Valdemoro, Co-Founder and Board Director of Liter of Light. “These 3,500 lights prove what’s possible when communities come together with purpose.”
Adding a unique artistic element is Odangputik Art Space, which champions the craft of ceramic pottery. “This project helps people understand pottery as a collaboration between art and science,” said Co-Founder Lin Bajala. “It’s helping us build cultural pride around an ancient craft.”
Carla Gonzalez-Chong, Chief Client Experience and Marketing Officer at Sun Life, summed up the mission: “Circle of Light turns science into art and art into hope. It reflects the trust we’ve earned over the years and our promise to brighten more lives for the next 130 years.”
