Jackie Chan has built a legendary career out of breathtaking stunts, martial arts mastery, and a distinct brand of humor that has made him a global icon. But in his latest film Panda Plan, he tries something refreshingly different—playing himself in a wild, family-friendly adventure where comedy, chaos, and cuddly charm collide. Now streaming on Lionsgate Play in the Philippines, the film offers audiences a glimpse of Jackie as they’ve never quite seen him before: a reluctant hero, caught between the spotlight and an unlikely responsibility.
The story kicks off when Jackie, portraying a fictionalized version of himself, suddenly finds his life entangled with Hu Hu, an irresistibly adorable baby panda. What begins as a simple act of care quickly escalates into a full-blown action caper after a ruthless crime syndicate sets its eyes on the rare cub. Determined to protect Hu Hu, Jackie enlists the help of his loyal agent David (Xiang Wei) and panda keeper Su Xiaozhu (Ce Shi). Together, the trio races against time, dodging danger through high-speed chases, elaborate stunts, and laugh-out-loud mishaps that remind fans why Jackie remains cinema’s most charismatic action star.
What makes Panda Plan stand out is its balance of jaw-dropping set pieces with heartwarming humor. Jackie revealed that he reunited with stunt doubles from his 2010 film The Karate Kid, particularly those who worked with the child actors, to choreograph the playful yet daring fight sequences. The result is a blend of thrilling martial arts and slapstick comedy that feels both nostalgic and new. Director Zhang Luan amplifies the spectacle with sweeping visuals of China’s landscapes, grounding the film in cultural pride while keeping the tone light and entertaining.
For Jackie, the project carries a personal resonance. In an interview with Gulf News, he reflected on why pandas hold such significance: “Pandas are our Chinese national treasure, but it was Hollywood that first put pandas in movies with Kung Fu Panda. I always hoped that one day we could tell a story about pandas rooted in our own culture.” With Panda Plan, he fulfills that vision—fusing global appeal with uniquely Chinese themes.
Audiences can expect more than just action; they’ll get an adventure about loyalty, compassion, and the lengths one will go to protect something precious. Packed with laughs, emotional moments, and, of course, a furry superstar, Panda Plan is Jackie Chan at his most playful—and most heartfelt. Stream it on Lionsgate Play starting August 22 via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal.
