Intramuros Comes Alive: A Summer of Culture, Color, and Community

Intramuros is set to redefine summer in Manila as it launches its first-ever
Intramuros Summer Festival on April 26, 2025. This milestone event marks the 46th founding anniversary of the Intramuros Administration and invites everyone—from families to art lovers—to rediscover the Walled City in a whole new light.

The festival transforms Intramuros into a lively, open-air celebration of Filipino heritage, where cobblestone streets echo with music, laughter, and the aroma of local delicacies. It’s a fresh and festive take on a historic district, designed to bring people together while supporting community and commerce.

From the break of dawn, activities will energize visitors. Fitness duo Jim and Toni Saret will kick off the day with a high-spirited Zumba session. Soon after, a colorful parade of student performers in traditional and contemporary Filipino attire will sweep through the streets, celebrating the nation’s diversity and creativity.

Health meets heritage as the University of Santo Tomas Health Service offers free medical and dental consultations until noon. It’s a thoughtful nod to community care woven into the festive experience.

Present at ceremonial signing of formal partnership agreements held at at Centro de Turismo, Intramuros are (from left): Dang V. Mendoza, head of the Business Management Division Intramuros Administration (IA), Rhea Kristine J. Cy, head, IA Tourism Promotions Division IA, Atty. Joan M. Padilla, IA Administrator, Kaye C. Tinga, President of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Jose Victor Gaite, VP for Administration, CCP, and Dennis M. Marasigan, VP and Artistic Director, CCP.

The afternoon brings the spotlight to Filipino stories and traditions. Children will gather for animated storytelling sessions led by Ate Posh, bringing folklore and values to life. Meanwhile, Casa Manila morphs into a Living Museum, with costumed reenactors recreating everyday scenes from the Spanish colonial era.

As twilight descends, the Sinag Concert will light up Plaza Moriones with performances by top Filipino acts like Itchyworms and Over October, plus rising student talents. Hosted by Sephy Francisco and Boobay, it promises a vibrant showcase of Original Pilipino Music under the stars.

Foodies and shopaholics will have their fill at the pop-up market along Gen. Luna Street, Fort Santiago, and the Riverwalk. Here, local vendors offer a taste of the regions—both in cuisine and craft—highlighting the country’s rich culinary and artisanal traditions.

Festival-goers can also grab the newly launched Intramuros Passport for just P350, which grants access to five key heritage sites. It’s an exciting way to explore, collect stamps, and support cultural preservation while making memories across the city’s most iconic landmarks.

And this festival is just the beginning. A year-round celebration follows, featuring the Grand Santacruzan in May with Miss Universe Asia Pacific Chelsea Manalo, the Likha Fair in June, and the Fiesta de Intramuros in September—alongside regular cultural shows and educational tours.

Intramuros is proving that it’s not only a place to remember history—it’s a place to make new ones. So whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning with fresh eyes, the Summer Festival invites you to be part of something timeless, yet thrillingly new.
