Instituto Cervantes opens a branch in Bangkok

INSTITUTO CERVANTES de Manila signed an agreement with Chulalongkorn University for the opening of a branch (Aula Cervantes) in Bangkok.  The agreement, which has been signed on July 10, involves conducting Spanish language classes in the University’s premises by teachers accredited by the Instituto. These classes will be open to students not only of Chulalongkorn University but also to the rest of Bangkok.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Javier Galván, the Director of Instituto Cervantes de Manila, and Dr. Suradech Chotudompant, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Chulalongkorn University. After the signing, which took place in the residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Thailand, Felipe de la Morena, a cocktail reception was held for members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as Spanish language teachers and members of the academic community.

An Aula Cervantes is a joint project between Instituto Cervantes and a local institution. It coordinates with a Center from the Instituto’s global network, which in this case is Manila. Instituto Cervantes Manila, which is the hub for the teaching of the Spanish language in Southeast Asia, has been managing the Aulas in Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta since the 2000s, and now, Bangkok.

New projects in perspective are the Aulas in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro in the Philippines and in Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore in the region. In some cases, Aula Cervantes has paved the way for the creation of a full center of Instituto Cervantes. The most recent one is the Center in Seoul, which will soon be inaugurated by Queen Letizia.

Instituto Cervantes is a Spanish government institution whose task is to promote the Spanish language and culture in Spanish all over the world.
