Hydrogen Storage Solutions Revolutionize PH Energy Sector

A game-changing energy storage solution centered on hydrogen is poised to revolutionize the Philippine energy landscape. Harnyss, a Texas-based energy technology company, is unveiling its patented low-pressure hydrogen storage solutions, promising to augment the deployment of renewable energy across diverse environments.

Harnyss introduces a novel hydrogen power system that harnesses water from the atmosphere or other accessible sources to produce hydrogen, subsequently stored in supercapacitors until fuel cells convert it into electricity.

Utilizing low-pressure hydrogen at approximately 250 pounds per square inch—ten times lower than conventional storage—Harnyss employs strategic materials to bind hydrogen, ensuring safe storage within specialized canisters.

The system stands out for its use of non-rare earth minerals, distinguishing itself from conventional energy storage products reliant on volatile lithium-ion batteries. This results in an extended battery lifespan of 20 to 30 years with minimal degradation, compared to the typical 10-year lifespan of lithium-ion batteries, enhancing sustainability and reducing fire risk.

Harnyss’ storage units, Oasis and Oasis 2, not only store hydrogen and energy but also function as a ‘microgrid-in-a-box,’ accommodating scalable energy storage ranging from 500 KWh to over 100 MWh, with 8 AC and DC inputs and 18- to 36-hour energy storage capabilities.

Tailored for the Philippine market, the Harnyss technology offers a practical solution for efficient energy storage, leveraging renewable energy sources and grid electricity while emitting water and minimal emissions, aligning with environmental sustainability goals.

The introduction of Harnyss technology coincides with the Philippine government’s recognition of hydrogen’s potential in addressing energy challenges, exemplified by the issuance of Circular No. 2024-01-0001 by the Department of Energy (DOE), outlining a national policy and framework for hydrogen integration in the energy sector.

To further promote hydrogen technology adoption, the government is extending tax incentives to projects and companies engaged in green hydrogen production, importation, or exportation for power generation and other applications, in line with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos’s commitment to exploring innovative energy solutions to address the country’s energy needs.
