Holcim Philippines, Inc., a key player in the country’s building solutions sector, is intensifying its campaign for greener construction by 2025. The company is focusing on expanding the use of low-carbon and circular construction materials, aiming to drive a broader shift toward sustainability in the industry.
With the construction sector contributing around 10% of global carbon emissions, Holcim recognizes its pivotal role in helping reduce the environmental impact of infrastructure development. In response, the company is ramping up efforts to engage policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders through events, partnerships, and educational initiatives that promote sustainable building practices.
Jill Ramos, Holcim Philippines’ Officer-in-Charge Chief Sustainability Officer, stressed the urgency of transforming the industry. “Sustainable construction is not a future goal—it’s a present necessity. Through collaboration and innovation, we can bring forward solutions that drastically cut emissions while still meeting the country’s infrastructure needs,” Ramos stated. She emphasized that teamwork with decision-makers and industry players is essential to mainstream low-carbon solutions in construction.
Holcim’s recent sustainability achievements serve as proof of its long-term commitment. Since 2018, the company has reduced its carbon emissions by more than 20% through strategies such as producing blended cements, shifting to alternative fuels, and utilizing renewable energy sources. These solutions not only lower environmental impact but also maintain high performance and reliability in construction.
Moving forward, Holcim plans to further empower architects, engineers, and developers with its eco-friendly product lineup. These include high-performance blended cements and Tector dry-mix mortars—materials designed to optimize resources while delivering durable results. The company also advocates for recycling materials and embracing smart design principles to lessen environmental strain.
“We have an opportunity to redefine construction in the Philippines—to build more with less, to reuse instead of waste, and to put sustainability at the heart of every project,” said Ramos. “Our mission goes beyond reducing our footprint; we want to lead a cultural shift in how we build, one that balances growth with responsibility.”
Through these ongoing efforts, Holcim Philippines reaffirms its role as a catalyst for change—pushing forward innovations that not only support the country’s net-zero goals but also promote a greener, more resilient future for all.
