Globe Denounces Latest Spoofing Incident and Assures Public of Security Measures

Globe Telecom has confirmed reports of a malicious text message using its sender ID to spread false information allegedly targeting the President’s family and other prominent political figures. Globe clarified that the incident is a case of spoofing, where fraudsters send unauthorized SMS using fake cell towers to mimic legitimate sender IDs.

Spoofing involves the use of an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) catcher, a portable device that forces nearby mobile signals to downgrade to 2G technology. This allows fraudsters to send fake messages without passing through Globe’s secure cellular network, bypassing its rigorous anti-fraud filters.

Globe is actively investigating the incident and coordinating with relevant authorities to prevent similar occurrences. The company assures its customers that it remains committed to enhancing network security and protecting users from such fraudulent activities. Globe also advises the public to stay vigilant and avoid engaging with suspicious text messages.

As a responsible mobile network operator, Globe reiterates that it does not send politically charged messages and remains unaffiliated with any political group. The company is steadfast in its mission to foster inclusive connectivity and support a digitally empowered Filipino society in partnership with the government.
