Empowering Eco-Friendly Travel: SM Supermalls Expands EV Charging Network for Holy Week
As the Holy Week approaches, SM Supermalls is set to enhance the travel experience for Electric Vehicle (EV) owners with its expanding network of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS).
Currently boasting 123 charging stations, the company plans to add 50 more by 2025, allowing for greater convenience and accessibility during festive travel. With free charging available at 69 SM malls nationwide, this initiative supports eco-conscious journeys for travelers heading both north and south.

Recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) as an accredited operator of EVCS, SM Supermalls ensures that its stations adhere to national standards. This focus on quality addresses existing infrastructure limitations while promoting the adoption of EVs, aligning with the DOE’s objective for a greener future in the Philippines.
EVs are a cornerstone of diminished greenhouse gas emissions, specifically targeting a reduction in carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions that contribute to global warming. Unlike traditional gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles, EVs operate with zero direct emissions, making them an environmentally favorable choice. For those planning road trips this Holy Week, the benefits of charging at SM malls are considerable.
Travelers venturing north to Baguio from SM Mall of Asia (MOA) can anticipate a 266-kilometer journey that consumes approximately 50 kWh one way. Such a trip averts roughly 0.067 metric tons of CO₂ emissions on a round trip—equivalent to the emissions produced by burning 7.6 gallons of gasoline or 74.6 pounds of coal. Convenient charging stops are also available at SM City Rosales and SM City Urdaneta Central.

Southbound travelers can enjoy numerous eco-friendly destinations as well, including Tagaytay, Laguna, and Batangas. For a longer excursion, those heading to SM City Naga can stop at SM City Lucena, resulting in 0.061 metric tons of CO₂ savings—comparable to 6.9 gallons of gasoline.
Further embracing sustainability, SM Supermalls extends its EV charging facilities to the Visayas and Mindanao regions, with stations located in SM City Cebu, SM City Cagayan de Oro, and SM Lanang in Davao. EV owners can easily complete a 280-kilometer round trip between Cagayan de Oro and Davao without the need for charging stops, evading about 0.035 tons of CO₂.
This Holy Week, travelers are encouraged to #RechargeWithSM and enjoy a seamless, eco-friendly travel experience, fueled by SM Supermalls’ commitment to creating a sustainable future.
