Access to reliable internet has become increasingly essential for education, communication, and economic opportunities, especially for communities located in remote parts of the country. Yet for many geographically isolated schools in the Philippines, stable connectivity has remained a challenge for years. Through a major nationwide collaboration, that gap is now slowly being addressed—powered by technology, partnerships, and logistics working together.
At the center of this effort is the PIALEOS Project, an initiative under the government’s Free Wi-Fi for All program led by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), with the Department of Education (DepEd) as a primary beneficiary. The project, spearheaded by Data Lake Inc. in partnership with We Are IT, Inc., aims to provide high-speed satellite internet connectivity to underserved communities through Starlink technology.
Supporting the nationwide rollout was logistics giant 2GO Group, which played a key role in transporting and delivering critical Starlink equipment to remote schools and communities across the country. In recognition of its contribution, Data Lake Inc. honored 2GO as one of its trusted partners for helping accelerate the deployment of internet services in hard-to-reach areas.
The recognition reflects more than efficient cargo movement. It highlights how logistics companies are becoming active contributors to digital transformation and inclusive development. By ensuring that connectivity equipment arrived safely and on time—even in provinces affected by difficult terrain, unpredictable weather, and long travel periods—2GO helped make internet access possible for thousands of students and educators.
According to Data Lake Inc. Vice President for Operations Ria Valdez, implementing the project came with numerous challenges, including storms, power interruptions, and repeated site visits due to changing deployment requirements. Despite these obstacles, the teams remained committed because they understood the deeper purpose behind the initiative: giving communities better opportunities through access to information and education.
Data Lake Inc. Chief Operating Officer Jose Cobarrubias also emphasized that the project goes beyond simply installing internet connections. For him, connectivity represents opportunities for students to learn, dream bigger, and access resources previously unavailable to them.
2GO Forwarding Business Unit Head Faye Alonzo echoed the same sentiment, noting that the company’s mission extends beyond logistics. By supporting projects such as PIALEOS, 2GO contributes to nation-building by helping essential infrastructure reach underserved areas where digital access can significantly improve lives.
As part of the milestone, 2GO also received the Special Leadership Award in Delivery Operations for its consistent and reliable support throughout the project rollout. The recognition underscores the company’s ability to manage large-scale nationwide deployments while maintaining operational efficiency under demanding conditions.
Through partnerships that combine technology, infrastructure, and logistics, initiatives like the PIALEOS Project continue to demonstrate how collaboration can help bridge the digital divide and bring meaningful progress to communities across the Philippines.
