BAKUNAWA, THE MOON EATER

Immerse into the beauty of the costumes worn by our Cebuana title-holders of Ms. Universe Philippines 2021. Beatrice Luigi Gomez and she went to that national costume slaying as she wears a stunning blue and green piece by fashion designer, Axel Que inspired by Filipino folklore of โ€œBakunawa, the moon eaterโ€, a mystical creature whose tales have been passed down through generations from our ancestors.

WEAVER OF HOPE

Miss World Philippines 2021, Steffi Rose Aberasturiโ€™s National Costume had a bit of a surprise effect. By holding the edges with its red color, it depicts the colors of Sto. Nino and when dropped turns into this beautiful golden piece designed by Malayka Yamas.

The designer also stated that as an advocate for empowering small businesses, the costume pays homage to a traditional Cebuano livelihood thatโ€™s been more profound during the pandemic- Rattan weaving.

VESSEL OF FAITH

Tracy Maureen Perez (Miss World Philippines 2021), the national costume was inspired by the Cebuanosโ€™ strong devotion to Sr. Sto. ร‘ino. It highlights the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan to the shores of Cebu and our ancestor’s introduction to the Christian Faith.

PEARL OF THE SOUTH SEAS

Shaila Rebortera, Miss Multinational Philippines 2021, wearing the pristine seas of the south became the inspiration behind this national costume with intricate details inspired by the luminous white pearls and glowing sea life.
