The Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), in partnership with SM Supermalls, organized an art exhibit to help raise funds to build the AAP Tahanan Office and Gallery building.
“At SM Supermalls, we recognize the important impact art has on our society. And everyday, we strive to foster emerging and veteran artists in our malls’ galleries and public spaces. We aim to create a world where art is not only encouraged, but is also deeply appreciated,” SM Supermalls President Steven T. Tan said.
The exhibit was hold last August 28 at the Level 3 Atrium of SM Aura Premier and at The Podium, Level 2 West Atrium last September 8 to 15, 2022.
With donated artworks from brilliant artists such as Danilo Santiago, Ral Arrogante, Fidel Sarmiento and Nelson Medina, the funds raised from these exhibits will be used for the completion of AAP Tahanan, a home for aspiring and veteran artists to nurture their talents and creativity, in Barangay Ulat, Silang, Metro Tagaytay.

The AAP was founded in 1948 by Purita Kalaw Ledesma and is the oldest umbrella group of artists in the country. With over 2,000 active members to date, the organization aims to “advance and foster, and promote the interests of those who work in the visual arts.”
The organization provides free art training to aspiring artists, organizes exhibitions, promotes art competitions, and hosts art programs to help members continue their art education.
Some of the notable members of AAP include National Artists such as Vicente Manansala, Jose Joya, Ang Kiukok, Jerry Navarro, Frederico Alcuaz, Carlos “Botong” Francisco, and Benedicto Cabrera, better known as BenCab.
“SM Supermalls has and always will wave the banner of local Filipino artists, because we believe that Filipinos are indeed gifted,” Tan said.
