On December 2, 2024, ARISE Philippines, the UNDRR Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies, celebrated the achievements of its network members and partners during the “United Towards Resilience” Recognition Ceremony held at the SMX Convention Center Manila. With over 200 participants, including government officials, private sector leaders, and advocates, the event highlighted collaborative efforts in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and sustainability.
Engr. Liza Silerio, ARISE Philippines co-chairperson and SM Supermalls Vice President, set the tone with a powerful call to action, urging continued collaboration as the 2030 Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) deadline approaches. “Let us double down on our united efforts as a society, united towards resilience,” she said.

Key government agencies were represented, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of National Defense (DND), and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). ARISE Philippines Chairperson Hans Sy, a staunch advocate for disaster resilience, underscored the private sector’s vital role in advancing DRR and sustainability through partnerships.
The event’s highlight was the recognition of ARISE members and partners for their exemplary contributions to resilience-building. Plaques and certificates were awarded to individuals and organizations whose innovative initiatives have set new benchmarks for private sector engagement in disaster preparedness.

Speakers from various sectors, including the Mabalacat and Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection, shared insights on collaboration and preparedness. ARISE Philippines Global Board Member VAdm Alexander Pama (Ret.) emphasized the need for sustained innovation and unity to achieve the SFDRR goals.
The ceremony concluded with a message from Atty. Alexander Cabrera, ARISE Philippines Vice Chairperson, who reaffirmed resilience as a shared legacy for a sustainable future. As ARISE Philippines looks ahead, it remains committed to driving innovation, partnerships, and action for disaster-resilient communities.
