Aboard Native Balsa, Polish Jazz Artist Holds Solo Concert at Las Casas

It was a performance as serene and calming as the surrounding spectacle. Indeed, a delight to the senses as sights and beautiful sounds combined for an evening of unique music appreciation.

Set in a backdrop of a world-class venue in Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar, Polish Jazz Pianist and Composer, Artur Dutkiewicz provided an evening of classic jazz with a solo piano concert titled “Impromazurka” on November 16, 2019.

Aboard a traditional Filipino balsa, the artists tagged as the “ambassador of polish jazz” by the jazz forum magazine in 2012, performed in an enchanting rendition of “Impromazurka” at the heritage hotel and destination located in Bagac, Bataan.

Dutkiewicz flew to the Philippines for his solo piano concert in partnership with the embassy of the Republic of Poland in manila where the celebrated musician serenaded the hotel guests and visitors aboard the iconic native raft at the serene waters of Umagol River.

“Impromazurka” means “improvisation on a lively polish dance in triple meter.” Prior to performing at las Casas, he took everyone’s breath away when he had a successful concert at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) last November 12.

His Philippine tour is part of their week-long celebration for the Poland independence day last November 11, a special day “to commemorate the anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s sovereignty as the second polish republic in 1918 from the German, Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires.”

It was the first time for the world-renowned pianist to play in a concert in the Philippines, and his first time too to visit the country. He is set to come back to Poland this week for a concert on Wednesday, November 20.

Dutkiewicz has appeared in more than 60 countries around the world from the USA through Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Poland’s Charge D’affaires to the Philippines Jaroslaw Szczepankiewicz officially welcomed the guests and selected press to the piano concert. He has also taken part in dozens of renowned jazz and music festivals around the world including Hague’s Northsea Jazz Festival, Melbourne’s International Jazz Festival, Warsaw’s Jamboree, Cannes’ Midem, Milan’s Music Oggi, Paris’ Festival D`Europe Centrale, And Budapest’s Sziget Festival.

His 2012 solo album titled “mazurkas” was inspired by Polish folk music and the music of Chopin, Szymanowski, Bartok.
