A Triumphant Return: CYDC The Finale Fashion Show Lights Up SM J Mall

After 13 years, the Cebu Young Designers Competition (CYDC) made a spectacular comeback, transforming SM J Mall’s Atrium into a dazzling showcase of fashion brilliance on March 22, 2025. “The Finale” brought together Cebu’s most promising young designers, industry leaders, and fashion enthusiasts for an evening that celebrated artistry, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Spearheaded by the Clothes for Life Foundation, the event set a new standard in Cebu’s fashion landscape, featuring cutting-edge designs that captivated the audience. Eight talented designers—Cris Escobido, Joshua Chiong, Johara Mina Mala Ara, King Rosales, Kheemberly Claire Coronel, Steven Cyrus, Sarah Tutor, and John Ivan Galochino—unveiled collections that blended bold creativity with masterful execution.

A distinguished panel of judges lent their expertise to the competition, including renowned couturier Cary Santiago, acclaimed photographer Jan Gonzales, entrepreneur and content creator Vern Enciso, top fashion show director Direk Junjet Primor, and Love and Diamonds creative director Hope Ty.

Stealing the spotlight, Sarah Tutor emerged as the winner, impressing the judges with their visionary designs and securing a place among the rising stars of the fashion industry.

CYDC, originally founded by the late Joy Bernaldez, continues its mission of nurturing young designers and supporting communities through cultural initiatives, livelihood programs, and advocacy efforts, including breast cancer awareness. Over the years, it has helped launch the careers of celebrated designers such as Andre Chang, Lorymer Villareal, Lord Maturan, and Pinky Magalona Ty.

The event’s success was made possible through strong industry partnerships. Oro China Jewelry played a pivotal role as a major producer, while SM J Mall served as the official venue partner, reinforcing its commitment to fostering new talent in the fashion world.

As CYDC marks a new chapter, fashion lovers can look forward to more groundbreaking showcases. Stay updated on future events by following SM J Mall on Facebook.
