A Classroom Built for Tomorrow

In San Carlos City, Pangasinan, a quiet transformation is reshaping the way students experience education at Magtaking Elementary School. More than just an addition to the campus, the newly turned-over two-story building from the SM Foundation represents a renewed sense of purpose—where learning is no longer confined by limitations, but inspired by possibility.

For Grade 5 student Cassandra, the new facility signals more than physical improvement. It reflects hope. She shares that the building has given her confidence that the quality of education she receives will continue to improve, encouraging her to aim higher and dream bigger. Around her, fellow students echo the same sentiment, recognizing how a better environment can influence not just how they learn, but how they see their future.

Principal Christopher Macasias sees this development as a vital step toward achieving meaningful educational progress. For him, quality education is not defined by infrastructure alone, but by the balance of three essential elements: well-designed classrooms, dedicated teachers, and measurable learning outcomes. When these come together, schools become spaces where potential is nurtured and futures are shaped.

The new classrooms provide more than comfort—they enable more effective teaching. Previously, overcrowded and poorly ventilated rooms made learning difficult, especially for students who required more guidance. With improved spacing and conditions, teachers can now focus on more personalized instruction, ensuring that no learner is left behind.

One of the building’s most significant features is its DigiHub, a digital learning center equipped with computers and internet access. For teacher Willy Cayabyab, this marks a turning point. The facility allows educators to integrate modern teaching methods while giving students access to tools they may not have at home. It opens doors to digital literacy, research, and skills that are increasingly essential in today’s world.

Beyond functionality, the building fosters collaboration among teachers and creates an environment where ideas and strategies can be shared more effectively. It stands as a bridge—connecting aspirations with opportunities, and challenges with solutions.

For Cassandra and her peers, education now feels more empowering. What was once simply a journey to finish school has evolved into a mission to excel. Inspired by her surroundings, she dreams not only of personal success, but of one day contributing to a better education system for future generations.

In this new space, learning is no longer just happening—it is thriving.
