Success in sports is often measured by trophies, medals, and championship titles. Yet behind every victory is a much longer story—one filled with practice sessions, lessons learned, and opportunities that help young athletes discover their potential. For aspiring bowlers across the Philippines, that journey is finding a home at SM Supermalls.
On May 31, SM North EDSA became a gathering place for the country’s rising bowling talents during the Learn to Bowl Culminating Day and the inaugural PBF Youth Cup National Finals. The event showcased how a simple introduction to the sport can grow into a pathway toward competitive excellence.

The morning highlighted the achievements of participants in the Learn to Bowl program, an initiative designed to introduce children and beginners to the fundamentals of bowling. Over several weeks, young athletes learned essential techniques such as proper grip, balance, stance, swing, release, and follow-through. Beyond technical skills, the program encouraged discipline, patience, confidence, and a positive attitude toward competition.
Adding inspiration to the experience was legendary Filipino bowler Olivia “Bong” Coo, whose accomplishments have earned her places in both the World Bowling Hall of Fame and the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame. Her presence reminded participants that every champion, regardless of achievements, once started as a beginner learning the basics.
As the day progressed, the spotlight shifted to the first-ever PBF Youth Cup National Finals, organized in partnership with the Philippine Bowling Federation. Young bowlers from various parts of the country gathered to compete after advancing through qualifying rounds and center finals held at SM bowling centers nationwide.

The tournament reflected months—and for some, years—of dedication. Every finalist represented countless hours of training and a commitment to improving their craft. Their performances demonstrated the determination and focus required to excel in a highly competitive environment.
Among the standout performers were Caleb Littaua and Eleana Lois Arabit, who captured the boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, in the 16-and-under division. Chivas Guevarra and Sarah Elise Yamsuan earned runner-up honors, while Jairo James Agudo secured third place in the boys’ category.
In the 17-to-21 age division, Hansel Alexandrian Ilagan and Nuela Surla emerged as champions. Michael Aguilar Jr. and Izef Syesha Tipones finished in second place, while Yeshuachim Borricano and Nicole Cardino rounded out the winners’ podium.

More than a competition, the event highlighted the role sports play in shaping character. Bowling teaches valuable life lessons that extend beyond the lanes, including perseverance, focus, sportsmanship, and resilience.
Through its nationwide network of bowling centers under SM Sports & Leisure, SM Supermalls continues to make sports more accessible to Filipino youth. Programs such as Learn to Bowl and tournaments like the PBF Youth Cup provide aspiring athletes with opportunities to learn, train, and compete while pursuing their dreams.
As SM Active Hub expands its offerings to include activities such as pickleball, skating, archery, and martial arts, the goal remains the same: to create spaces where Filipinos can stay active, build confidence, and discover new passions.
Because every champion’s story begins long before the final match—and sometimes, it starts with a single roll down the lane.
