As text scams continue to evolve and prey on unsuspecting mobile users, Globe has introduced a new defense: the SMS Scam Shield, now available on the GlobeOne app for Android users. This innovation underscores Globe’s ongoing commitment to protect subscribers from phishing attempts and spoofed sender IDs pretending to be Globe, GCash, or other trusted institutions.
Phishing via SMS has become one of the most prevalent threats in the country, often using spoofed sender names like “GLOBE,” “GLOBEREWARD,” or “GCASH” to deceive users into clicking harmful links. Many of these fraudulent messages are generated through IMSI catchers—rogue devices that mimic legitimate cell towers to broadcast malicious content.
Globe Product Experience Vice President Coco Domingo explained that SMS Scam Shield empowers customers to take charge of their safety. “Our goal is to give users peace of mind. With Scam Shield, they are alerted whenever a suspicious message is detected, allowing them to avoid clicking dangerous links or revealing sensitive information,” he said.
The tool works seamlessly once activated on the GlobeOne app. It scans messages locally on the user’s device, ensuring privacy and security, while issuing push notifications if a message shows signs of fraud. Globe clarified that no SMS content is stored or transmitted; only harmful links are collected to improve the system’s defenses.
Since its initial launch, SMS Scam Shield has already made an impact. More than 34,000 GlobeOne users have activated the feature, and over 13,000 phishing messages have been flagged within weeks. This reflects both the alarming scale of text scams and the effectiveness of proactive protection.
Globe is also inviting the community to participate in the fight against fraud through its reporting portal, globe.com.ph/stop-spam, which helps expand the blacklist of dangerous links.
The company emphasizes that SMS Scam Shield is just one part of a broader strategy. Globe continues to explore AI-driven threat detection and enhanced cybersecurity tools to ensure safer digital experiences for all Filipinos.
For Android users, enabling SMS Scam Shield is simple: open the GlobeOne app, go to Profile > Security Settings, and activate the feature—at no cost.
