SM Foundation Elevates Navy Health Facility in Legazpi

Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta PNFlag Officer In Command of the Philippine Navy (left) with SM Supermalls SAVP- South Division Head Engr. John Jason Terrenal officially turns over the renovated Naval Station Julhasan Arasain (NSJA) Medical and Dental Dispensary on behalf of the SM Group to the Philippine Navy during a ceremony on May 29, 2025 in Rawis, Legazpi City.

A newly renovated medical and dental dispensary at the Naval Station Julhasan Arasain (NSJA) in Legazpi City was officially turned over to the Philippine Navy by SM Foundation, reaffirming its commitment to supporting military and community healthcare.

Held in Rawis, Legazpi City, the ceremonial turnover marked the completion of SM Foundation’s 217th project under its Wellness Center Program. The initiative reflects the Foundation’s enduring partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, which began in 2009 and has since revitalized 43 AFP healthcare centers.

Dental dispensary expanded with new infection control area, radiography section, and prosthodontics section, plus and more space for dental chairs.

The upgraded NSJA Medical and Dental Dispensary now features an improved layout that enhances patient flow and healthcare delivery. It includes newly refurbished consultation and examination rooms, a minor surgical suite, pharmacy, and administrative areas that encourage smoother operations and better collaboration among staff.

The dental section saw major enhancements as well. The redesigned space accommodates more dental chairs and includes a dedicated infection control area, a radiography room, and a prosthodontics section—improving both patient care and operational efficiency.

The SM Foundation also rolled out its SM DigiKonsulta to help the dispensary in conducting virtual consultations and digitizing the records of its patients.

In line with SM Foundation’s wellness-centered design philosophy, the facility was outfitted with air-purifying paints, energy-efficient LED lighting, and bright, welcoming furniture. Additionally, the Foundation introduced its SM DigiKonsulta program, which supports virtual consultations and digitized patient records—modernizing the dispensary’s healthcare services.

These improvements aim to benefit over 15,000 individuals, including naval personnel and families as well as residents of nearby barangays Rawis and Bogtong.

The renovation addresses the healthcare needs of both military families and civilian populations in nearby Barangays Rawis and Bogtong, over 15,000 patients combined.

This project aligns with SM Foundation’s broader mission of expanding access to quality healthcare, enhancing patient experiences, and building resilient medical systems. The Wellness Center Program, alongside the Medical Mission Program, serves as a vital arm of the foundation’s health advocacy.

Importantly, the renovated NSJA dispensary now complies with standards set by PhilHealth and the Department of Health, positioning it to offer broader services and meet national accreditation requirements.

Upgrades include newly refurbished examination rooms, consultation areas, a minor surgical room, specialized equipment areas, pharmacy facilities, and various administrative facilities to foster collaboration.

Through efforts like this, SM Foundation continues to deliver on its promise to uplift healthcare facilities and empower healthcare providers across the Philippines.
