Empowering Women in Fire Safety Through ‘Women on Fire’

SM Leaders and Bureau of Fire Protection Officials sign the memorandum of agreement, signifying the renewed commitment to fire safety and prevention campaigns.

In celebration of Fire Prevention Month and National Women’s Month, SM Cares, in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), launched the Women on Fire initiative alongside the 4th SM & BFP Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill on March 4, 2025. This campaign honored the role of women in fire prevention, disaster response, and community safety while reinforcing SM’s commitment to preparedness and gender inclusivity in fire safety.

Held across multiple SM malls nationwide, with SM Mall of Asia serving as the main venue, Women on Fire recognized the leadership and resilience of female firefighters, emergency responders, and safety advocates. Through forums, exhibits, and discussions, the event highlighted the critical contributions of women in protecting lives and properties.

Honoring Women in Fire Prevention

The initiative placed a well-deserved spotlight on female professionals in fire safety, featuring discussions on gender-inclusive disaster resilience programs. “Women have always played a vital role in ensuring safety. Through Women on Fire, we recognize their contributions and reinforce the importance of gender-inclusive fire prevention efforts,” said Atty. Pearly Joan Turley, Senior Assistant Vice President of the Corporate Compliance Group and SM Cares Program Director for Women & Breastfeeding Mothers.

Strengthening Community Preparedness

As part of the event, SM malls nationwide participated in a large-scale fire drill, engaging SM employees, tenants, students, and local stakeholders. Conducted in collaboration with BFP personnel, the drill simulated real-life fire emergencies to reinforce proper evacuation procedures, fire suppression techniques, and emergency coordination efforts.

“Fire prevention is not just about drills—it’s about building a culture of preparedness, and through this initiative, we are equipping our community with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to ensure safety and protection in case of emergencies,” said Fire Chief Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, CESE, Bureau of Fire Protection Officer-in-Charge.

A Commitment Beyond Fire Prevention Month

SM and the Bureau of Fire Protection light the MOA Complex with 180 fire trucks forming the ‘Venus Symbol’ to mark the celebration of Women’s Month and Fire Prevention Month this March 2025.

The Women on Fire initiative will continue beyond March, with ongoing training, educational programs, and community engagement activities focused on fire safety and disaster preparedness. SM Supermalls remains dedicated to workplace safety, emergency response training, and empowering individuals—especially women—to take active roles in fire prevention.

Through its partnership with BFP and commitment to inclusive safety programs, SM Cares continues to advocate for disaster resilience and preparedness for all. For more updates on Women on Fire and other initiatives, visit SM Cares’ website or follow @SMCaresOfficial on social media.
